The Acura RDX is a crossover SUV that features the sporty handling of a small sedan with cargo space and all-wheel-drive capabilities found in larger sport utility vehicles. Like all cars, you can open the hood to perform routine maintenance and other tasks. Like most modern cars, there is a safety latch under the hood that must release before you can open the hood.

Step 1

Park the car and put on the parking brake.

Step 2

Pull the hood release handle to the left of the dead pedal to unlock the hood.

Step 3

Go to the front of the car and place your fingers under the hood near the center of the grill.

Step 4

Slide your hand to the left until you feel the safety latch under the hood.

Step 5

Push the safety latch up and lift the hood.

Step 6

Release the support rod from its clip and place it in the designated hole on the bottom of the hood to hold the hood in place.

Tip

If you have been in an accident or your hood is bent or dented, the safety latch may be damaged and you will need to get it repaired in order to open the hood.
