How to Recycle Nursery Pots
Many nursery pots are made out of plastic. These pots can quickly accumulate, especially if you are an avid grower. Throwing the extra nursery pots in the trash is not necessary, since they can be recycled. You can recycle the nursery pots in numerous ways in your own home if your local recycling center isn't currently accepting that particular type of plastic. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Locate the number on the nursery pots. The number indicates the type of plastic the nursery pot is made out of. Contact your local recycling center and let them it know what number plastic you have. The center will let you know where you can drop off that particular type of plastic. Be aware that some counties do not accept some types of plastic for recycling, so there is a chance you won't be able to drop off your nursery pots for recycling.

2
Join the Freecycle Network in your neighborhood and offer the nursery pots for free to anyone who wants them. Someone else in your hometown may take the nursery pots and use them for their own planting projects.

3
Wash the nursery pots out and take them to the beach. Have your children use the nursery pots to create magnificent sand castles.
If you have a sand box, you can use the nursery pots in there.

4
Organize your craft supplies by placing them in your old nursery pots. Keep paints in one pot and paintbrushes in another. Use the pots to store beads, scrapbooking scissors, pipe cleaners and glue sticks.
-
5
Place one of your old nursery pots next to your kitchen sink. Add any food scraps that can be composted to the pot. When the pot is full, take it out to your compost pile.

Tips & Warnings
Instead of craft supplies, you can store office supplies in the nursery pots. Paper clips, thumb tacks, pencils, and stamps can all be stored in old nursery pots.
Even if your local recycling center doesn't accept your old nursery pots, your local garden centers might.
