Keep your commitments to and honor your contracts with your clients. It might sound obvious, but keeping your word and doing exactly what you have committed to do is the No. 1 thing most businesses can do to keep their clients happy.

Be a proactive problem solver for your clients. Maintain open channels of communication with your clients so you can get to know them as individuals and as a business. That way, you can keep your thumb on the pulse of their business, and be prepared to respond to their needs or even offer to solve developing issues or problems.

Be willing to say "no" ... or "yes" in the appropriate circumstances. Let's be honest: The customer is not always right. Certainly, as a businessperson, you want to do everything in your power to meet your customers' needs and make them happy, but there are times and places when you will be doing your customer (and yourself) a big favor by saying no, and recognizing those times is a big part of successful management. By the same token, it is also important to show you are willing to go the extra mile for a client, so if you can pull off a miracle for a client by saying yes, and without upsetting the whole apple cart of your organization, by all means go for it.

Run a great promotion. The type of promotion you come up with obviously depends on your business and your clients, but some type of special or promotion specifically tailored for each of your clients can be a great way to create relationships and increase your bottom line.
