How to Recycle Blue Glass

Blue glass can be recycled the same way as any other color of glass.

Recycling is important to improve the overall health of our planet. Recycling specific colors of glass requires a bit more care than you might have thought previously. There are four colors of glass in circulation that can be recycled: blue, clear, green, and brown. Separating colors when recycling glass is important so we do not mix colors and weaken the glass during the recycling process.

Instructions

1. Gather all of the glass you have to recycle and separate it by color. Gather all of the blue glass for recycling in one place apart from the other glass. Rinse the glass to keep it clean before recycling it. You can put the glass into containers for delivering or simply place all of the glass in a bag for delivery.

2. Call local recycling plants or use online services (see Resources) to locate recycling plants and facilities near you. You can use your phone book or visit your community center or city hall for more information on the location of the nearest glass-recycling facility.

3. Deliver the glass to the recycling facility at the times they allow drop-offs. Some recycling plants and facilities offer pick-up services for those who cannot deliver the recyclables themselves, so be sure to inquire about this option if it is available in your area. Some cities also have curb pick-ups of recyclable materials weekly --- if this is available in your area, you may not need to deliver the glass to recycle, but rather put it out when the recycling crew comes by to pick it up. These schedules are sometimes coordinated with your garbage pickup days, and you can confirm this by calling your local city hall offices.
