How to Put a Logo on an Address Bar in a Website

As you bring up different websites in your browser window, certain sites contain little pictures (favicons) that show up next to the URL in the address bar. You have the option to create a favicon for your own website using an image such as your logo. Making a favicon requires access to your picture file and the Web host account that manages your pages. Add a favicon to your site to enable visitors to recognize your brand.

Instructions

    • 1

Point your browser to an online favicon generator, such as Dynamic Drive or Project Fondue, and click the "Choose File" button. Use the menu on either website to select your logo file and then click the "Create Icon" or "Create Favicon" button to generate your 16 pixels wide by 16 pixels high image in Windows icon format. Click the "Download FavIcon" or "Download the generated favicon" link to obtain the "favicon.ico" file.

    • 2

Log in to your Web host account and navigate to the "Control Panel" feature. This feature typically appears on the first page you see when you sign in.

    • 3

Click the "File Manager" option and then click the "Public_HTML" or "Public_WWW" folder to get to the root directory of your site. The root is the area that contains your website's "index" file.

    • 4

Click the "Browse" or "Upload" button to select the logo file. Your logo now appears in the address bar when your website loads in a browser window.
