1
Connect the water supply to the pressure cleaning equipment.
-
2
Choose a pressure level for cleaning. Use the highest pressure for extremely dirty or moldy deposits.
-
-
3
Secure the ladder on a level surface. Have a friend or family member help steady the ladder as you ascend or descend.
-
4
Assemble your nozzle and other equipment on the roof surface in a safe manner.
-
5
Assess the condition of the tiles. The color of the tiles may darken when wet, so it's a good idea to make note of dirty areas while the roof is still dry.
-
6
Spray water on the far corners of the roof first. Use the most powerful setting to lift algae or mold from the tile surfaces.
-
7
Scrub areas of heavy mold or algae deposits with a long-handled brush.

Tips & Warnings
A solution of 1 part chlorine bleach to 4 parts of water can be added to the pressure washer tank for heavy mold cover, according to ConsumerBuild.org.nz.
Holding the pressure washer wand about 6 inches from the tile surface will allow the pressure to remove mold, algae and lichens, according to website AskTheBuilder.com.
The bleach solution should be left on tiles for 5 to 15 minutes to kill mold and algae before rinsing.
Hold the pressure washer nozzle straight down on the tile surface. Do not allow the water to shoot upward, as this can work under tiles and cause water damage.
Wet tile can be extremely slippery. Try to remain on dry areas as you work your way across the roof surface. Avoid walking on wet areas whenever possible.
Algae and lichens that have been loosened from the tile can make the surface of the roof even more slippery. Use caution.
Never pressure spray while you stand on the ladder. The force of the pressure can disrupt your balance and cause you to fall.
Cover plants and bushes near the roof area to prevent damage from bleach solution.
