How to Remove a Bed Box From a GMC Pickup

Truck bed boxes come in a variety of shapes, sizes and combinations. Truck boxes are available in a single box fashion, which mounts to the bed just behind the truck's cab. Bed boxes are also available to fit on side rails of a truck bed for easy access to tools and necessities. Bed boxes are available with combined ladder racks and metal frames, which allow the driver to hold large items outside of the truck bed during transport.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the lid of the utility bed box. Prop the lid against the rear of the cab if supports are not available to hold the box open.

    • 2

Locate the mounting bolts on the bottom or on the side of the box. Mounting bolt location will vary, depending upon if the box is mounted to the floor of the truck or if it is mounted to the side rails of the bed. Remove the four to eight mounting bolts located inside of the utility bed box with a socket and ratchet.

    • 3

Look for bolts or hardware mounted underneath the bed rails if you have a forward, floor-mounted utility bed box. Remove any mounting bolts which may be holding the box to the bed rails.

    • 4

Lift the utility bed box and remove it from the bed of the truck completely.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use PB Blaster or penetrating aerosol spray to loosen any bolts which are rusted into the bottom of the bed box. Applying penetrating spray will allow easier removal of otherwise difficult bolts and hardware.
