Homemade Jedi Robe
A Jedi is a spiritual knight for the forces of good similar to a Samurai. The concept was popularized by George Lucas' Star Wars films in the 1970s and brought back in the last decade with his episode prequels. A Jedi robe is a long brown robe similar to the type worn by Benedictine monks but with hoods and large bell-shaped sleeves.

Instructions

Make the Robe
-
1
Measure Your Body Measure the length of your body from shoulders to the soles of your feet.
-
2
Measure out the same length of fabric and fold it over lengthwise.
-
-
3
Lay with Your Arms and Legs Spread Lay down so your shoulders are along the fold of the fabric with your arms and legs spread like you are about to make a snow angel with your arms angled downward. Have your partner trace your body from beneath your armpits to the underside of your arms and along the sides of your legs.
-
4
Draw a curved line at the bottom of the fabric where your feet were. This line connects to the ends of the two lines drawn around your outer legs. At the top of the fabric where your shoulders were, cut out a shallow isosceles triangle in the middle along the fold to make room for your head to come through (See references 1).
-
5
Cut out the isosceles triangle along the fold of the fabric. Then, cut out the rest of the pattern from the bottom of your sleeves to the outside edges of your body that your partner traced.
-
6
Sew the robe Turn the fabric inside-out and pin together the edges where you cut along the underside of your arms and the edges of your body. Sew together, leaving the outer edges of the fabric open for your sleeves and the triangle open for your head.
-
7
The sleeves and shape of a monk's robe resemble a Jedi robe. Turn the fabric right-side out and cut down the center of the front of the robe from the point of the triangle to the bottom. This will be the opening of your robe. Hem the edges of the cut you just made.
Finish the Robe
-
8
Fold the fabric in half. Including the fold in your measurements, cut out a 16-inch square so that when it is unfolded, the fabric is a 32 inch by 16 inch rectangle (see references 1).
-
9
Turn fabric inside-out and fold into a 16-inch square. From the fold, sew along one edge so that two connecting edges are open and two connected edges are closed.
-
10
Flip the hood right-side out. Line the hood seam with the point of the neckline triangle at the back of the robe. Lay it just under the edge of the neckline fabric so seam lines up with the triangle point. Unfold along the seam and pin the edge of the fabric to the back collar of the robe and sew (see references 1).
-
11
Attach the eye-clasp button to the opening of the robe to create a closure. Wear the robe over a tan V-neck T-shirt and a pair of tight-fitting black or brown pants to complete the look. Don't forget your light saber!
