How to Grow Chlorella Vulgaris

You can grow Chlorella algae at home.

Chlorella vulgaris is a type of algae. People grow it as a dietary supplement because it is rich in vitamins and other nutrients. While most Chlorella sold in the United States is imported from Asian countries, you can easily grow your own at home. Make sure you are purchasing your Chlorella cultures from a seller with a good reputation.

Things You'll Need

• Chlorella cultures
• Thermometer
• Glass containers

Instructions

1. Heat a pot of water until boiling. Dip your glass containers into the water to sterilize them.

2. Fill the glass with filtered water almost to the top. Add Chlorella vulgaris cultures to the water as instructed by the manufacturer.

3. Place glasses in a sunny area, as water temperature should be kept warm, around the low 80s Fahrenheit. Use a heat lamp if necessary.

4. Harvest your Chlorella after a week.
