How to Use a Four Channel DVR
A four-channel DVR is similar to the DVR that is used with a satellite system. However, this particular type of DVR is typically used with a security system. The four channels allow the recording from four different camera locations. Using the device will require you to prepare the DVR, by making all of the needed connections, and then setting up various options in the main menu.

Plug the connector end of the power adapter cable into the "DC IN" jack on the back of the DVR. Plug the other end of the cable into a wall outlet or power strip.

Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the adapter for the camera. Plug the other end of the cable into the "CH1" port on the DVR. Repeat this step for the remaining three cameras.

Plug the cable for the mouse into the USB port labeled "Mouse" on the back of the DVR.

Connect the end of the VGA cable for the monitor to the "VGA" port on the back of the DVR. This is needed to see the video on the screen.
Set Up the DVR

Press the "Power" button to turn on the DVR and wait while it checks the integrity of the hard disk. A grid will appear on the screen with all four camera locations.

Click the icon of the book in the Control Bar at the bottom of the screen to access the Main Menu.

Click the number buttons to enter the default password for the DVR. This Main Menu will then appear on the screen.

Click the "Channel Setup" option to verify that all four channels are set to record. Select the "Active Channel" option to enable and disable a camera signal. Select "Record Channel" and verify that each channel is set to "On."

Click the option for "Recording Mode Select." Select "T" to record by a length of time or select "M" to record by motion.

Click the option for "Exit Main Menu" to close the menu screen.
