How to Build a Fast & Furious Car
In 2009 the movie "Fast and Furious" was released, the latest in a series of movies celebrating street racing and the culture surrounding it. Because of the movies, the phrase "Fast and Furious" has also come to refer to a car modified in a certain manner. Usually, the car is an import, more often than not Japanese, and is modified to go far faster than it does in stock form. Other changes usually include a body kit, flashy racing style graphics and different wheels.

1
Install a body kit. One of the most defining features of a Fast and Furious car is the installation of a body kit. The more outrageous the better. Most kits come with an enormous rear wing too, but if the one you buy doesn't have one, run out to Pep Boys and buy the largest wing you can find. For the best results, you should have a professional body shop install and paint the car.

2
Cover the exterior in wild graphics and paint. Like the body kit, the more outrageous the better. Also, stick with crazy colors like orange, red and fluorescent green when it comes to the color scheme. Many of these cars have contrasting graphics running down the side and over the hood.

3
Put the biggest wheels and tires on it that you can afford. A real Fast and Furious car has larger aftermarket wheels, preferably chromed for an even more customized appearance. Larger wheels and tires are available at local tire stores and auto parts stores as well as online.
-
4
Lower the suspension and install a high-performance brake kit. Since cars modified in this manner usually have more power, they need additional handling and braking to keep the performance balanced. Performance shocks and springs or even adjustable coil-overs are common upgrades.
-
5
Install as many carbon-fiber components as possible, including a carbon-fiber hood as well as doors and fenders if they are available. This will make your car lighter, and less weight means more speed and handling.
-
6
Turbocharge the engine if it is not already turbocharged. Another defining feature of a Fast and Furious car is an excess of power. The more the better. You can also start with a car that is already turbocharged in stock form and modify it for more power, though this will likely void your warranty if it's a new car. A lot of these cars also have custom engines that have been rebuilt to withstand the kind of power that a turbocharger or supercharger can produce.

7
Install NOS, which is nitrous oxide. An NOS system uses a bottle mounted in the trunk or even the interior. When it is activated, the nitrous is delivered to the engine for an instant power boost, which is perfect for when you are racing someone with a more powerful engine than you have.
-
8
Install race seats, a smaller steering wheel, alloy shift knob and drilled pedals in the interior. The seats will hold you in better when driving and cornering fast, especially when combined with 4- or 5-point racing harnesses.
