Refilling inkjet cartridges is easy and inexpensive.

Inkjet printers are a common type of printer for home use because of their price range compared to other high-end printers such as laser. They use special inkjet cartridges that shoot ink out of tiny holes on the cartridge to create your printing. Inkjet cartridges come in a few different varieties. First is the sponge-filled, which is basically a sponge that holds ink inside of the ink cartridge. Second is the vacuum-retained, which must have a vacuum-created seal in order to work properly. Instructions

    • 1

Remove the spent ink cartridge from your printer and use paper towels to wipe off the excess ink and sludge on the cartridge head.

    • 2

Look over the cartridge for a hole that can be used to input new ink. The opening may be hidden under a label or cap that you will have to remove. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the plug if necessary.

    • 3

Fill the syringe that came with your refill kit with ink, making sure that you fill it with the amount recommended by your inkjet-cartridge manufacturer.

    • 4

Place the tip of the syringe into the hole you uncovered and slowly inject the ink into the cartridge until it is full. Try not to inject too fast or you could cause it to overflow.

    • 5

Close the hole you used to refill the cartridge and replace it into your printer. Covering the hole may consist of replacing a plug or placing a label or cap back over the hole.
