How to Extract a DBC From WOW

"World of Warcraft" is a MMORPG (massively multi-player online role-playing game) global phenomenon featuring millions of subscribers. Some IT pros have made a program to create their own maps and use their own server, and extracting .dbc files is a key part of the process. Following a few steps will allow you to extract these files, but the .dbc extraction process is only one step in this network mapping process.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the "Free Network Mapping Software" from Spiceworks. Open the program once the download has finished. Click "File" from the menu at the top left side of the screen, then click "Tools."

    • 2

Copy the following files from the "Tools" directory: "extract.bat," "MPQE.exe," "readme.txt" and "SFmpq.dll." Paste the files into the "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data\enUS" directory.

    • 3

Click on the "extract.bat" file from the "data/enus" folder. Wait for it to finish to complete the extraction.

Tips & Warnings

  • "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data\enUS" is the default position for the "World of Warcraft" folder; if you installed your version to a different location, go to it and locate the "data/enus" folder.
