The Volume Control in Windows manages the sound output for your computer's speakers. The control does not always appear in the system tray of your toolbar. Restore the Volume Control icon to ensure that the sound from your computer is easily accessible.

Instructions

  1. For Vista and Windows 7

    • 1

      Right-click the "Start" button and select "Properties" from the context menu.

      Click the "Notification Area" tab of the window and check the box for "Volume."

    • 3

      Click the "OK" button to apply the changes and the Volume Control will be restored to your toolbar.

    For Windows XP

    • 4

      Click "Start" and click "Control Panel."

    • 5

      Select the "Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices" icon. Click "Change the speaker settings" under the "Pick A Task" heading.

      Click the check box for "Place volume icon in the taskbar" and click "OK."
