You can connect a new phone jack with a drywall saw.

Residents of a home may need to connect a new phone jack because of the addition of a new phone or fax line. A phone jack of the modular variety, called a wall jack, refers to the most common form of phone jack in use. If you learn where to put the actual phone jack, you can install it without much effort.

Instructions

    • 1

Sketch your wall outline at the location where you desire to place your phone jack. Put your phone jack faceplate on your wall, and sketch along the exterior portion of the device. Then sketch along the interior portion about half an inch inside your previous outline to create an opening for your phone jack.

    • 2

Slice an opening in your wall where you plan to put the phone jack with a saw of the drywall variety. Then cut around the edge of your interior outline to take out the drywall piece itself.

    • 3

Drop your phone wire along your floor, as well as up the wall until it reaches the hole.

    • 4

Slice about an inch from your outer phone wire cover with your wire cutter tool.

    • 5

Remove about half an inch of insulation from the exterior portions of each of the four tinier wires with your wire cutters.

    • 6

Attach all your wires of the smaller variety to their corresponding screws in your jack plate with the use of a screwdriver. Unscrew each screw that sits on the actual jack plate and then twist your wires around each screw.

    • 7

Connect your jack plate and its screws to its wall location.

    • 8

Connect you faceplate and its screws. Then insert a phone via your jack to verify that it operates correctly.
