How to Change the Oil in a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
Jeep recommends changing the engine oil every 3,000 miles. Keeping a regular service schedule will increase the life and performance of your engine. Oil lubricates the pistons, lifters and other moving parts inside the engine. When the oil becomes dirty, it can damage the internals of the engine. Purchase replacement oil and filters at auto parts stores and change the oil yourself. This will save you money, as well as the inconvenience of taking your vehicle to the shop.

1
Pull the release levers on the hood clamps. Lift the hood and lower the support rod.
-
2
Place a drain container under the vehicle at the engine oil drain bolt, which is on the bottom of the oil pan. Remove the drain bolt using a wrench and allow the oil to drain from the engine before reinstalling and tightening the bolt with a wrench.
-
-
3
Find the oil filter on the engine. The location will vary depending on the engine in your Rubicon. The 4.0L's oil filter is on the passenger side while the 3.8L's is near the front of the engine. The oil filter is a round filter that attaches directly to the engine block.
-
4
Slide the drain container under the oil filter. Remove the oil filter with an oil filter wrench. Slide the round section of the wrench over the filter and turn the wrench until the filter breaks free.
-
5
Apply a small amount of used oil onto the gasket of the replacement oil filter before installing it. Tighten the oil filter hand tight.
-
6
Remove the oil fill cap on the engine. Place a funnel into the hole and pour new oil into the engine. Check the fluid level after each quart has been added by removing the dipstick and looking at the end. There is a line on the end of the dipstick that shows the amount needed. Do not overfill.
-
7
Replace the fill cap.
-
8
Recycle your used engine oil. Many auto parts store will accept used oil free of charge.
