SII markets business and home/office products. One of SII’s companies is Seiko Instruments USA. It is responsible for the iconic, one-label-at-a-time Smart Label Printer. The device eliminates the need for a full sheet of letter-sized labels in a full-sized printer just to print the odd address label. Common problems with the SII Smart Label printer are the labels advance at an angle, creating crooked print, and the labels get stuck. These problems can be corrected by following some troubleshooting steps.

Things You Will Need
  • Scissors

  • Isopropyl alcohol

  • Cotton swab

Adjust the position of the labels if you see the labels advancing at an angle and the print crooked. Swivel the label cover so it’s open, and take off the print engine cover. The print engine cover comes off if you pull on the edges at the top of the cover.

Release the pressure on the label stock by pulling the platen lever forward. The platen lever is on the right. Realign the labels, so that they’re straight. Then lock the platen lever again, check the labels feed through the slot and replace the covers.

Remove stuck labels. Cut the label stock between the label roll and the label slot at the back of the printer. Swivel the label cover open and take off the print cover, as in Step 1. Pull the platen lever forward and remove the stuck label. You may have to use alcohol to remove adhesive residue. Return the platen lever and close the covers.
