How to Make a Batting Cage Net
Batting practice is very important to improve stance, follow through and hand-eye coordination. Setting up a batting net in your backyard could not be easier, the size can be adjusted to suit the amount of space you have available and it can be used with a batting tee, a plastic stand on which a baseball is placed so it can be hit without a pitcher. All of the items you need can be purchased cheaply and easily from your local hardware and sporting goods stores.

Instructions
-
-
1
Mark out an area 10 feet wide that would be suitable for a batting net.
-
2
Drive the two 10-foot wooden stakes 10 feet apart into the ground with a sledge hammer so they are secure.
-
-
3
Thread the top of the net onto the cable.
-
4
Attach the cable to the top of the stakes using nails and a hammer so the net droops down between them.
-
5
Fix the net onto the wooden stakes using the hammer and nails. Ensure there is some give in the net.
-
6
Measure 3 feet in from each side.
-
7
Drive the 5-foot stakes into the ground with the sledgehammer 3 feet from each side and about 3 feet into the net.
-
8
Attach the net to these using the hammer and nails to create a soccer goal style net. This style will allow the velocity of the ball to be absorbed and allow it to be reclaimed easier.

Tips & Warnings
The sizes given here are purely a guideline. This net could be made a large or small as you like, but remember the smaller the net the greater the chance of missing it when hitting the baseball.
When using the ladder to attach the net at the top of the stakes, observe all standard ladder safety precautions.
