Heated Rollers Instructions

Heated Rollers Instructions thumbnail
Heated rollers set and curl hair with a combination of ionic charge, heat and steam.

Heated rollers -- also known as hot rollers or hairsetters -- are convenient styling tools that create long-lasting waves and curls. While curling irons, which also use heat to curl and style your hair, are convenient; heated rollers allow your hands to be free to get dressed and put on your makeup. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Rolling Hair

    • 1

Start with dry hair. Rolling wet hair with heated rollers can cause damage to both the equipment and your hair. Comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb so that it's free of tangles.

    • 2

Separate your hair into five sections. Along the top and middle of your head all the way from the front to the back will be the top three sections. The other two sections are the sides.

    • 3

Spray each section with a styling spray or hairspray. The best spray to use with heated rollers is a light-hold flexible formula.

    • 4

Decide whether or not you want small curls or large waves.

For large waves, use one large heated roller for each section. Hold the heated roller at the end of the section of hair and wrap the end around the roller. Roll upward toward the scalp. Make sure you roll away from your face and not toward it.

For small curls, divide every section into 3 sub-sections. Roll these sub-sections with smaller sized rollers, always rolling away from the face instead of toward it.

    • 5

Begin with the sections of hair on top of your head that are nearest to your forehead. Work your way toward the back, and then finish up with the sides. Pin the heated rollers in place. Your heated roller kit may have come with metal pins to pin them. If not, use claw clips.

    • 6

Leave the heated rollers in for at least 20 minutes, or until they're cool to the touch. If you remove them when the hair is still hot, the curls will not set properly.

    Removing the Heated Rollers

    • 7

Remove the clip or pin that is holding the heated roller.

    • 8

Unwind each section of hair from the roller, making sure to do so slowly.

    • 9

Finger-comb or use the wide-tooth comb to tousle your curls.

    • 10

Spray with a styling spray or hairspray.
