Improve Jeep Wrangler Gas Mileage

The Jeep Wrangler is an SUV that somes in several different trims and with many different options. SUV's do not typically get very high gas mileage: the V6 Jeep gets 15 mpg in the city and highway driving can get an average of 19 miles per gallon. There are ways, though, that you can help your Jeep get better gas mileage and save you the money you would pay to fill up your tank.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a Jeep Wrangler with options that will save in gas. A four-cylinder engine uses less gas than a six-cylinder does. An manual transmission also is more fuel-efficient than an automatic. You can even choose to buy a model that uses diesel rather than regular unleaded fuel. Diesel gets better gas mileage than regular gasoline. Getting a hard top Jeep Wrangler will help with having less drag than a soft top, also saving gas.

Maintain your car properly. Jeep recommends oil changes at least every three months or 3,000 miles. Make sure to keep fluids at their proper levels and to keep your tires inflated.

    • 3

Choose highway driving over city driving if and when possible. For a 2010 Jeep, driving in times of traffic, or city driving where there is a lot of stop and go, yielded only 15 miles per gallon. Driving highway increases your miles per gallon to 19 miles per gallon.
