How to Make Potato Print Fabric
Potato stamping is a great activity that requires only a few household items, a steady hand and some imagination. Potato stamping on fabric ensures that your creativity will remain and be seen for a long time to come. By simply using the right tools and a couple of easy techniques, you can be printing your creative designs on bags, cushions, shirts and more.
Things You'll Need
- Potato

- Fabric
- Iron

- Cookie cutters
- Paint roller
Instructions

1
Iron your fabric. Ensure that the fabric is smooth in order to achieve the best prints possible. If there are too many wrinkles or bumps in the fabric, the potato will not transfer the paint properly.
-
2
Cut your potato in half and cut out whatever designs you wish to create using a knife or cookie cutters. You can push the cookie cutter into the potato just to create an indentation and then, using the knife, cut the potato off around the design.

3
Roll fabric paint onto the potato. If you wish to do multiple colors, do one at a time and allow it to dry before applying others.
-
4
Press the potato onto the fabric. You may have to try this a few different times using different amounts of pressure each time to create the desired look.
-
5
Iron the fabric again once the paint is dry. Iron the painted side of the fabric first and then the non-painted side.

Tips & Warnings
If using this as a children's craft, it is best to have an adult cut the shapes out of the potato in order to prevent injury. If you don't have cookie cutters or they don't fit on the surface of the potato, you can always use a paper image of something and poke small holes along its edges and into the potato. You can then remove the paper and refine the cut.
