How to Disassemble the Action of a Thompson Contender
Thompson Contender pistols are capable of shooting a wide variety of ammunition. Each Thompson Contender is designed to fire exactly like the brand after which it is modeled, and all the barrels are interchangeable with a single pistol. If the shooter were to own all the available models, it would be like having 15 different handguns shooting from the same pistol grip

1
Move the safety switch into the "Safe" position between the rim-fire setting and the center-fire setting. The rim-fire and center-fire positions are what allows the handgun to shoot a wide variety of ammunitions. This switch is located above the hammer.

Pull the spur attached to the trigger guard to release the action. Fold the barrel downward to make sure the gun is unloaded. Look into the chamber at the rear where the barrel attaches to the frame of the gun on a hinge pin. Check inside the bore for a live round of ammo. Close the barrel.

3
Unscrew the two screws on the bottom of the forend. The forend is the mini-forestock located in front of the trigger. Remove the forend from the barrel.
-
4
Pull back on the trigger spur and release the barrel to the full-open position. This releases any tension on the hinge pin. Tap out the hinge pin and remove the barrel from the frame of the gun.

5
Insert the barrel into the frame of the gun where the hinge pin meets. Drive the hinge pin back in gently; check the operation of the hinge to make sure it is smooth. Check the operation of the hammer and the trigger before proceeding to assemble the handgun, making sure their operation is smooth and accurate. Close the barrel all the way. Finish the reassembly by attaching the forend with two screws.
