How To Set Up Dish 500 for an RV

The Dish Network Dish 500 satellite dish provides multiple transmissions so that a dual-tuner satellite receiver can display one channel while simultaneously recording another. To set up a Dish 500 on an RV, use a portable satellite tripod. All of the components needed to set up a Dish 500 in a home must be used with the RV, but the procedure will not require modifying or altering the vehicle in any way. A few supplies from a satellite supply shop will be needed.

  • Phillips screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Stand the portable satellite tripod outside of the RV where it has a clear view of the sky. Loosen the collar at the top of the tripod with a Phillips screwdriver. Insert the pole at the bottom of the Dish 500 satellite dish through the collar.

    • 2

Look at a compass to determine which way is South. Rotate the front of the dish so it points to the South. Tighten the screws on the collar.

    • 3

Loosen the screws at the front bottom of the dish with the Phillips screwdriver. Insert one end of the lateral support pole through the collar. Tighten the screws on the collar.

    • 4

Loosen the screws on the side of the dual LNB (low noise block amplifier) module with the Phillips screwdriver. Place the LNB on the far end of the lateral support pole. Rotate the LNB so that its plastic front faces towards the dish. Tighten the screws.

    • 5

Connect an end of one of the two 6 foot coaxial cables onto one of the two coax outputs on the bottom of the dual LNB. Connect an end of the other 6 foot coaxial cable onto the other coax output on the dual LNB.

    • 6

Screw the free ends of both coaxial cables into the coax inputs on the satellite multi-switch. Screw an end of the 50 foot coaxial cable into one of the coax outputs on the satellite multi-switch. Place the satellite multi-switch on the ground next to one of the tripod legs.

    • 7

Run the 50 foot coaxial cable into the RV and over to the dual satellite receiver. Screw the end of the coaxial cable into the coax input on the dual coax adapter. Screw an end of a 3 foot coaxial cable into one of the two coax outputs on the dual coax adapter. Screw an end of the other 3 foot coaxial cable into the other coax output on the dual coax adapter.

    • 8

Screw the free ends of the coaxial cables into the two coax inputs on the back of the dual satellite receiver.

    • 9

Turn the dual satellite receiver on. Press "Menu," "System Setup," "Dish Pointing."

    • 10

Loosen the knobs on the side of the portable satellite tripod. Raise and lower the dish angle while viewing a signal meter that is displaying the strength of the satellite reception. Stop raising and lowering the dish when the signal meter is displaying the highest number possible. Lock down the knob that is allowing the dish to be raised or lowered.

    • 11

Move the dish in a left and right motion while viewing a signal meter. Stop moving the dish when the signal meter displays the highest number possible. Lock down the knob.

    • 12

Press "Live TV' repeatedly on the dual satellite receiver's remote to exit the settings menu.
