How to Build Your Own Child's Kitchen Set

An inexpensive and surprisingly durable kitchen set can be created for your child using corrugated cardboard boxes as building materials. Young children will enjoy assisting in the kitchen set building process, since no dangerous saws, hammers or nails are necessary. Design ideas can often be found in kitchen remodeling magazines, which will also give dimensions for build-it-yourself types. Instructions

    • 1

Look through the magazines for a kitchen set, including sink, refrigerator and stove designs. Press duct tape over all cardboard box seams and edges for extra strength, taping the boxes securely closed.

    • 2

Place the upside down plastic bowl on the top of one box. Trace around the bowl with the pencil. Cut the circle out with the scissors. Insert the bowl in the round hole and duct tape the bowl to the box for a kitchen sink.

    • 3

Roll the clay on a flat surface to make a snake that is 5 inches long and 1 inch wide. Bend the clay halfway to make a kitchen sink faucet. Roll two pieces of clay into small round balls, flatten them and draw an "H" and a "C" on each for knobs. Let the clay dry for two hours, spray paint the knobs the desired color.

    • 4

Spray paint the sink and let the paint dry. Glue the faucet and knobs to the box at the sink edge. Cut out cabinet doors from the construction paper and glue them to the front of the sink.

    • 5

Spray paint a second box for a stove; cut out a large oven door from construction paper and glue it to the front. Cut out black construction paper circles for burners and glue them to the top of the stove.

    • 6

Stack the last two boxes on top of each other and attach them together with the duct tape to make a refrigerator. Spray paint the boxes. Cut out a door from construction paper and glue it to the front of the stacked boxes.
