How to Use an RF Meter

Radio waves have the longest wave lengths in the electromagnetic spectrum and are invisible to the naked eye, thus, we need radio frequency (RF) meters to be able to detect them. RF meters give multiple output values, but the most important value when measuring radio frequencies is the microwatts per square meter (mW/m^2), which tells you the power density of the microwaves in the area. To use an RF meter, you must simply turn on the device in the environment where you want to get a reading and read the display.

Instructions

    • 1

      Press the "Power" button to turn the device on.

    • 2

      Aim the RF meter at the radio wave emitting area.

    • 3

      Move as close to the radio wave emitting area as possible.

    • 4

      Read the power density in microwatts per square meter from the display.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never stand in between the RF meter and the radio wave emitting area. The human body blocks electromagnetic fields and will, therefore, cause you to receive an inaccurate reading.
