How to Clear Snow From a Carport Roof

An adjustable roof rake provides the safest way to clear snow from a roof.

Clear the snow from your carport roof quickly by pulling it off the roof with an adjustable roof rake. You can do this without ever having to leave the ground. You can find this tool for about $40 at a hardware store or online.

Things You'll Need

• Adjustable roof rake (16 feet long)
• Ladder

Instructions

1. Extend the handle of the roof rake and lock the handle in place.

2. Position the rake at the edge of the roof. Pull the first foot of snow off the roof slowly in short, steady strokes. Do not allow the rake to drop completely off the roof ledge. Allow gravity to pull the snow off as you rake. Work your way from the edge of the roof to the ridge. Rake slowly and steadily.

3. Clear small sections as you work your way across the roof. Begin each section at the edge of the roof. Adjust the length of the handle as needed.

4. Shorten the handle and use a ladder to fit into tight spots or corners where the extended handle is too long.

Tips & Warnings

• Purchase a roof rake with an angled pole if you have tight places to maneuver in.

• Do not use the blade of the roof rake to break up ice. This can cause damage.
