How to Update the BIOS for an A7N8X

The Asus A7N8X motherboard features support for AMD Duron, Athlon and Athlon XP 3000+ processors, as well as beta support for AMD Sempron "socket A" processors. Asus frequently provides customers with BIOS updates designed to fix commonly known hardware bugs and introduce new features and capabilities. Updating the BIOS for your Asus A7N8X motherboard is an easy task that takes a few minutes to complete using the integrated utility program built in to the system.

Instructions

      Navigate to the Asus support Web page and choose "Motherboards," followed by "SocketA(462)" and "A7N8X" under the product selection drop-down boxes (see Resources). Click on the "Search" button to display the available support files for your motherboard.

      Select the appropriate operating system installed on your computer and press the "Search" button. Click on the "+" sign next to "BIOS" and locate the latest BIOS revision for your motherboard.

      Download and save the latest BIOS Zip file to your computer's desktop. Extract the BIOS file to your computer's desktop by using a Zip file decompression program (see Resources).

      Write down the name of the BIOS ".bin" file on a piece of paper. Copy the ".bin" file to a blank floppy disk.

      Restart your computer, hold "F2" and the "Alt" keys simultaneously when the initial system screen appears. When the BIOS flash utility appears on your screen, enter the full file name of the BIOS update into the appropriate field and press "Enter." Press the "Y" key to save a backup copy of your current BIOS file.

      Create a name for the original BIOS file, such as "old.bin," and press "Y" to continue. Press "Y," followed by "Enter," to start the flashing your computer's BIOS. Reboot the computer after the flashing process completes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not turn off the computer during the flashing process.
