How to Use a Bialetti Coffee Maker
Alfred Bialetti introduced the world to his "Moka Express" espresso coffee maker in 1933. The way local women washed their clothing inspired the design of the machine. Bialetti's machine was forged from aluminum and provided users with the ability to create espresso in the comfort of their homes. Adoption of the machine spread like wildfire, with Renato, the major producer of the pots, producing over 18,000 per day according to Jeffrey T. Unscrew the top pot of the coffee maker. Remove the top pot and the center coffee basket.

Fill the bottom portion of the pot with cold water. Continue to the fill line, or to just below the safety valve.

Replace the coffee basket. Add coarse ground coffee grounds to the filter without packing it down. Avoid using instant or finely ground coffee.

Screw the top pot back onto the coffee maker.

Place the pot on a stove top set to low or medium heat. Remove and serve when a gurgling sound is heard.
