How to Locate My Congressman
Voting for and knowing your president is only one aspect of participating in the democratic process. Congress in divided into two houses --- the House of Representatives and the Senate. Elected officials are distributed to the House of Representatives based on each state's population. Each state also has two senators. Knowing who represents you in the United States Congress is, perhaps, the most important component to beginning to understanding the intersections of politics, public policy, and democracy. To find your senators and representative in congress, follow these instructions.

Find your entire United States Postal Service ZIP Code. Enter your address using the USPS ZIP Code finder. Write down the entire number, including the last 4 digits.

Visit the House of Representatives website to determine your representative. Enter www.house.gov into your web browser. Enter your full ZIP Code into the "Find your Representative" form at the top left corner of the web page. Click "Look up Representative."

View your representative. Click the name that appears on the next page to visit the webpage of your representative.

Visit the U.S. Senate website. Enter www.senate.gov into your web browser. Click "Senators" at the top left of the web page.

Find your senators. Select your state in the drop-down menu labeled "State" at the top left of the web page. Click the names of your senators on the next screen to view your senators.
