How to Tell if It's a Real Russian Diamond
Diamonds are always going up in value. Real diamonds are a limited resource in the world and while man-made diamonds are available, the value of a man-made diamond is much less than the value of a mined diamond. According to Tsarina Diamonds, Russia is one of the top producers of diamonds in the world. While Russia does have diamond mines, it also produces synthetic diamonds. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Find out if the diamond came from Russia. Diamond mines are found around the world and many diamonds do not come from the Russian diamond mines. If the diamond does not come with a certificate from a reputable company showing which Russian mine the diamond came from, it might not come from Russia.

Clean the stone and dry it. Use a breath to fog up the stone. According to Diamond Cutters International, a real diamond will disperse the heat and the fog will clear up almost immediately. A fake will remain fogged up for two or more seconds. The website makes it clear that while the fog test is a way to test, if the diamond has dirt on it then the fog test is inaccurate, so it is important to clean the diamond before testing with a fog test.

Look at the diamond from the top using a loupe or magnifying glass. Look at the cut of the diamond. A real diamond will have facets that join with a sharp edge rather than a round edge.
-
4
Look at the girdle of the diamond. The girdle is the point where the rounded crown or top of the diamond meets the part of the diamond that tapers to a cone shape. According to Diamond Cutters International, a real diamond has a frosty or faceted appearance while a fake will look waxy or slick.

5
Look for flaws. The loupe or magnifying glass will show any flaws. A real diamond will have small cracks or carbon that create a flaw while a fake stone is unlikely to have a flaw.
