Know Your Claim Status

When making a claim for unemployment benefits or benefits due to injuries at work, checking the status of the claim can give peace of mind and can ensure that the claim is working through the process. Finding out the claim status takes only a few minutes and gives information about where in the process the claim is and how long it is likely to take before the claim goes through.

Instructions

    • 1

Allow a few weeks for the claim to start working into the system. The amount of time a claim takes to process will differ by state, but most states will require at least a week or two before the claim is put into the system.

    • 2

Check the claim online. Websites like Your Claim Status or the state website that deals with claims allow the individual that made a claim to check on the status. Checking online requires filling in the claim number and the ZIP code. Some websites will want a name, phone number and the last four digits of a Social Security number as well. These will give results quickly.

Check the claim over the phone. The state website where the claims were made, such as a claim made to the Department of Labor, will have a phone number available to call about claim status. The numbers will differ by state. To get the claim status over the phone, call the number and give the required information such as name and claim number. The customer service representative will access the information and provide the claim status over the phone. If it is not yet in the system, the representative will inform the individual calling and suggest a time period to call back and check again.
