How to Recover a Stolen Windows Live ID

How to Recover a Stolen Windows Live ID thumbnail
A stolen email ID might make it hard to get back into your email account.

A Windows Live ID is your MSN messenger or Hotmail email ID. It is possible for scammers or hackers to steal your ID and use it to create a mirror email account. Since it isn't yours, and since you don't know what the new password is, it can be difficult to shut down the second account. If hackers have stolen your ID by breaking into your own account and changing your password, you also might have difficulties. You can recover the ID by contacting Hotmail.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the Hotmail main site and choose "contact us." Scroll through your options and decide if you would like to call their phone number or send an email to customer service.

    • 2

Call or email customer service. Give your email ID and explain that it has been hacked and stolen. Be sure to tell if the hacker has set up a second account, which means you still have access to your first one, or if they have stolen your account and changed your password to steal your ID.

    • 3

Fill out the forms that Hotmail requires to report scammers or hackers and stolen IDs. The forms will have to be reviewed. Once they have been reviewed, Hotmail will close the secondary account or will remotely change your password and send you the password at another account so you can access your account, and the scammer or hacker cannot.
