Switch your AT&T Blackberry to an iPhone in no time.

Switching phones with AT&T may seem like a huge hassle, but it is actually a fairly straightforward process. If you are eligible for an equipment upgrade in your current contract, you can easily order a new iPhone at a lower cost than the suggested retail price. Even if you aren't currently eligible, you can still switch phones without much effort. Best of all, most of the process can be done online at your convenience instead of with a customer service representative in a store or over the phone.

Instructions

  1. Upgrade Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your AT&T wireless account online to determine your equipment upgrade eligibility. If you are not registered on the website, create an account; all you need is your billing information and wireless number.

    • 2

Click the "Check Upgrade Options" link in the "Phone/Device" box. If you are eligible for an upgrade, your Blackberry should appear with an eligibility notice.

    • 3

Select your desired iPhone model from the list of available phones. Enter your billing and shipment information where requested.

    • 4

Deactivate your Blackberry by contacting AT&T support. This is usually an automated process.

    Alternative Instructions

    • 5

Purchase the iPhone directly from Apple online or from your local Apple or AT&T retailer.

    • 6

Activate your new phone over the Internet or in person at the AT&T or Apple store.

    • 7

De-activate your Blackberry by contacting AT&T support or in person at an AT&T retailer. This is usually an automated process.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you need assistance with any step of the process, or if you want to ask more specific questions, AT&T customer service can be reached by phone at 1-800-331-0500.

  • If you are not eligible for an upgrade, you will see a message with the date that the line may be eligible, plus a message saying that you can take advantage of a no-commitment pricing option. This means that you would pay the full, nondiscounted price for an iPhone.

  • You may sell your Blackberry to compensate for the iPhone cost through eBay, Craigslist or other venues, or even give it to a family member or friend. The recipient would have to activate the phone through his own means through AT&T.

  • Ordering at the discounted price requires adding a minimum data service plan to your regular monthly bill.

  • This upgrade also extends your contract agreement with AT&T for two years.

  • If you sell your Blackberry, back up the contacts and data from the phone as well as the SIM card before removing it.
