How to Cure Laziness

How to Cure Laziness thumbnail
You may need to motivate yourself to shake off a lazy spell.

Whether you're feeling lethargic because of the weather, your surroundings or a simple wave of inertia, you may wonder how to cure your laziness and recharge your energy level. Many people have occasional "lazy times" that they manage to shake off quickly. If you're worried that you can't motivate yourself to take care of the tasks that wait for you, you can take some steps to shake yourself into activity by taking actions that will inspire you and stimulate you to act.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a list of the things that you need to do. Write them in a list on paper. This can put your tasks into perspective and help prevent you from feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work waiting for your attention.

    • 2

Divide your list into time frames. Write down which chores need attention immediately, which can wait until tomorrow and so on. Then, prioritize the list further, listing how you will order your tasks each day.

    • 3

Hang your lists in a place where you can see them frequently. Look at each task as a separate entity. Visualize the task first if that helps, but concentrate on one chore at a time. Don't think about the next chore until you have finished the current one.

    • 4

Give yourself a reward at the end of each project --- a treat, some downtime to watch a TV program or a few minutes to chat with a friend on the phone. Reward yourself not only for completing your goals, but also for moving out of your state of inertia into a healthy state of activity.

    • 5

Make check marks next to all completed tasks. Seeing proof that you can accomplish what you set out to do will act as a strong motivator to continue onward.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you generally have a lot of energy and suddenly you begin to feel lazy, consult a health care practitioner for possible physical causes. Sometimes something as simple as a low blood iron level can cause fatigue and inactivity.
