How to Troubleshoot Gateway 400 Notebooks With No Display

The Gateway 400 Series includes the Gateway 400SD4 and the 400VTX. Both models were designed with consumers and small businesses in mind. Unlike desktop computers, which come with separate, easy-to-replace displays, notebook monitors are built into the computer itself. Replacing an laptop's LCD display requires quite a bit of technical knowledge. However, simple fixes -- such as adjusting the screen's brightness -- can repair what appears to be hardware failure.

Instructions

    • 1

Confirm the Gateway notebook is not powered off or in standby mode. Tap the power button to turn on or wake the computer.

    • 2

Check the screen brightness. Hold down the "Fn" key, then tap the up arrow on the directional pad to increase the brightness of your Gateway 400's display.

    • 3

Toggle the notebook display. If you have an external monitor hooked up to the laptop, hold down "Fn." Press "F3" until the display switches to the laptop, or until both the laptop and the external monitor display an active screen.
