Troubleshoot a PCI-E video card using tool innate to WIndows.

The central circuit board, or motherboard, inside a PC's case serves as the computer's backbone. All hardware components such as system memory (RAM), the processor and video cards connect to the motherboard. The 939Dual-Sata2 motherboard has a PCI-E x16 expansion slot for a graphics rendering video card as well as 7.1 channel surround sound capability. The smaller PCI slot is for sound cards or wireless modem connections. If after plugging in your new video card it is not responding or causing a computer error access the Device Manager tool in Windows for troubleshooting.

      Click the "Start" button present on the Windows desktop and type "Device Manger" into the search box that appears and press the "Enter" key. The Device Manager utility launches showing a list of all hardware devices installed on the PC arranged into categories by type.

      Click the "Display Adapters" option in the Device Manger window, then double-click on the name of the PCI-E video card in the list. A Device Properties window opens. In the box labeled "Device Status" a message shown stating whether the video card is working properly or not. If the device is not working properly, Windows recommends that a new driver be installed. Drives allow the video card to interface with the rest of the machine correctly.

      Click the "Driver" tab then press the "Update Driver" button to start the Windows driver installation wizard. Click "Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software" and Windows will search the computer and the Internet for the most up-to-date driver. Once the driver is located it is installed automatically. Resume normal computer use with your working video card.
