With EphPod, a free program, you can now transfer music from your iPod onto your computer.

Apple developed iPods and iTunes in a way that helps battle music piracy. However, there are legitimate times that you may need to take music from your iPod, such as if your computer's hard drive has crashed and you don't want to spend hours re-burning all of your CDs. Luckily, numerous applications have been developed to transfer music from you iPod to your computer. Some of which can be downloaded for free. One in particular is EphPod.

  1. How to Transfer Music from an iPod Onto a New Computer

      Go to ephpod.com and click the link to download EphPod version 2.75. Run the executable file, and run through the installation wizard. After installation, click the "Start" menu button, go to "All Programs" and then to the EphPod folder. Click "EphPod" to run the program.

      Click the "Next" button when the EphPod setup wizard appears. Select your iPod from the drop-down menu. If prompted, click the "Build iPod Directory Structure." Otherwise, click "Next."

      Sync your iPod with EphPod by clicking the "iPod Tools" menu button, then "Synchronize with iPod." After the synchronization is finished, click the word "Artists" on the left of the window, then select "All" from the artist list that appears on the right.

      Right-click any song listed below the artist list and click the "Select All Songs" button, or hold the "Ctrl" and "A" buttons on the keyboard. Right-click any of the highlighted songs and select "Copy Songs To Directory." Select the location on your computer where you would like to save the music files.

Tips & Warnings

  • EphPod may not work with newer models of iPods.
