How to Remove Ejection Rollers From HP Printers

How to Remove Ejection Rollers From HP Printers thumbnail
Worn rollers will cause paper jams.

If you notice an increase in paper jams on your HP printer, checking the ejection rollers is a good first step in the troubleshooting process. When these rollers are new, they have a rough surface that grabs the paper and pulls it through the paper path. But as those rollers wear out and become smooth, they no longer grasp the paper properly, resulting in jams and other paper-feed issues.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut down the HP printer and wait for it to power off. Remove the power cord from the back of the unit.

    • 2

Slide the paper tray out until it stops. Place your hand under the tray and lift gently while pulling the tray up and off the track. Set the tray aside.

    • 3

Reach inside the printer and feel for the ejection rollers on the right hand side. Each tray has multiple rollers, so make sure you identify and remove each one.

    • 4

Grasp the roller firmly and slide it off the bar. Set each used roller aside and replace it with a new one.
