How to Chain Two DSL Routers thumbnail
Routers are built to share Internet connections and computer resources..

DSL stands for digital subscriber line and is the technology used by telephone companies to provide broadband Internet to their customers. A router lets you network several computers together to share resources. A DSL router can be a normal router or one that has a built-in DSL modem so you can plug your phone cord directly to the router. You can connect two of these routers together to add more computers to your network.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy an additional router to add to the one you have. This does not need to be the same type of router, it does not even need to be a DSL router, though you can use one.

    • 2

Connect a computer to the second router using a network cable from the computer's network card to another LAN port on the router.

    • 3

Open a web page on the computer connected to the second router. Type in the router's IP address in the address area. Enter the username and password when prompted. This information should be in the router's manual or on the back or bottom of the router itself.

    • 4

Turn off "DHCP" in the settings in the router. If you do not do this you may encounter errors. Save the changes and exit the router menu page.

    • 5

Attach a network cable from one of the LAN ports on the second router to an open LAN port on the first router.

    • 6

Connect any computers you want to any open LAN ports on either router. Do not connect anything to the second computer's WAN or Internet port. Your DSL should be connected to the first router's DSL port.
