How to Reset a Chamberlain Liftmaster Garage Door

Once installed, the Liftmaster garage door opener should work well with little difficulty, but problems may occasionally occur such as the motor overheating, which will require the system to be reset. Resetting the garage door opener only takes a few steps but should only be done by an adult familiar with operating large machinery to reduce the risk of bodily injury or harm.

Things You'll Need

• Access to power supply
• Wall remote or hand-held remote

Instructions

1. Unplug the main Liftmaster unit from the power supply.

2. Wait 30 minutes. Restore power.

3. Press and hold the large push button on either the hand-held remote control or the wall-mounted door control until the garage door begins to move.

4. Contact an authorized service technician if unplugging the unit to restart the garage door does not resolve the issue, which is frequently indicated by the error light blinking five times repeatedly.

5. Unplug the Liftmaster and avoid operating the garage door opener until an authorized service technician is able to assess the problem.
