My Powerbook G4 FTP is Slow
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a means of transferring files over the Internet. FTP is most often used by web designers to upload files to a web server. Although software, called an FTP client, is required to transfer files via FTP, the speed of your FTP uploads/downloads has nothing to do with the computer you are using, but rather the Internet connection. If you are experiencing slow transfer rates when using FTP on your Powerbook G4, you should examine possible factors that could be limiting your connection speed.

1
Attempt uploading/downloading your FTP transfers at another time. The server you are using might be slow because of heavy traffic on the server. Using your FTP at a later time when there is less traffic on the server may improve the transfer rate.
-
2
Pause or cancel your other uploads/downloads. If you are uploading or downloading files through another program while you are trying to transfer files via FTP, it will slow down your FTP transfers.
-
-
3
Check with your Internet service provider to find out if they are having network problems.
-
4
Consider purchasing a faster Internet package from your Internet service provider. Upgrading to a high-speed package will increase the rate of your FTP transfers.
-
5
Use a different FTP client. The FTP client you are using might be the cause of slow file transfers. There are many FTP clients available for Mac OS X, such as Cyberduck, FileZilla, Fetch and many more.
