How Teens Can Make Money on the Internet

Though United States law generally allows you to hold a job once you turn 14, money-making websites usually restrict their services to people 18 years and older. Still, with a parent's help, a teenager can make money using the Internet.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather items to sell online. These may be items in your room you want to get rid of -- like sports gear you don't use, or clothes you no longer wear -- or they can be things you find at yard sales or thrift stores. Make sure that all the items are in good condition. Repair and clean them if necessary.

    • 2

Have a parent open a PayPal account for you, or open one yourself, if you're at least 18 years old. PayPal makes it convenient to receive payments for sales you make on eBay, if you choose to use that site.

    • 3

List your items for sale online using sites like Craigslist, Amazon and eBay. You must be at least 18 to sell on eBay, so have a parent do it for you, if you want to use the site but are too young. Be sure to give a detailed description of each item, including photos, if possible.

    • 4

Deliver items immediately when someone buys them. This way, you'll keep customers happy, which can affect your seller rating on sites like Amazon and eBay, and you'll get your money sooner.

    • 5

Remove an item from all sites once you sell it. Otherwise, you'll keep receiving requests to buy items you no longer have.

    • 6

Request the money you earn from your parents each week, if they're responsible for your PayPal account.

Tips & Warnings

  • For your safety, never go alone when delivering items in person, as is frequently done when selling through sites like eBay and Craigslist. Have a parent accompany you or deliver the item for you.
