How to Operate a Bass Boat
Operating a bass boat requires some knowledge, practice and skill. Bass boats are fishing platforms designed with high-performance engines to get the angler across the lake to the fishing areas as quickly as possible. They are capable of running at 60-70 mph. Operating the boat is all about how skillful the boater is at trimming the motor -- raising or lowering the motor in the water to control the boat's performance.
Instructions

1
Turn the motor on, and ensure everyone in your boat is seated securely.
-
2
Trim the motor all the way down and motor out slowly to a safe place that has deep water and no obstructions.
-
-
3
Power up the engine by pushing the throttle forward. The boat should move forward with its bow in the air, and then it should "plane out," or run parallel to the water's surface.
-
4
Trim the motor up once it planes out. The trim button is the toggle switch on the throttle handle.
-
5
Adjust the trim until the boat is easy to steer, with practically no resistance. You do not want large adjustments to the boat's direction. Small adjustments in direction are sufficient at top speeds.
-
6
Slow the boat gradually. If the boat begins porpoising (bouncing up and down) as you are slowing, you will need to trim the motor down.
-
7
Run the motor at idle speed after you have taken it off plane. You can idle the boat back to the boat launch.
