How do I Repair a JVC VCR?
VCRs tend to run into more problems than other video playback devices (such as DVD players). This is because there is a wider opening on the front, allowing more debris to penetrate the interior of the VCR. This content wrecks havoc on the interior of the hardware, causing playback problems. You may also run into connection issues that prevent the audio/video signals from reaching a connected television. The issues encountered on a VCR are typically the same with almost any brand, including JVC. If you are experiencing difficulties with the VCR, you need to troubleshoot the situation in order to determine what exactly is causing the problem.

1
Check the cable connection running form the JVC VCR to the television. If the cable is not completely connected into either device, you are going to lose either (or both) the audio or video signal on the television's screen.
-
2
Change the cable connection. If using RCA audio/video cables to send the audio/video signals to the television and the picture or audio is not being reproduced by the television, connect a coaxial cable to the VCR and hook it up to the TV. It is possible there is a defect with the connection ports--or, if the coaxial cable connection is not working, switch to RCA.

3
Spray compressed air into the opening on the JVC VCR. This removes dust and other debris clinging to the interior of the device. When dust clings to the internal workings of the VCR (often the playback heads), you are going to see lines of static on the picture screen.

Insert a cleaning tape into the VCR and press "Play." The cleaning VCR runs a cleaning tape over the heads, removing any dust the compressed air may have missed. Play the tape for a few minutes, then insert a VHS tape and press "Play." The tape should now play without any static.
