IPhone tethering is an older feature for users outside of the United States, but, in the U.S., it was disabled due to AT&T's restrictions, as it can consume high amounts of data when connected to your computer. In the IOS 4 update from Apple, iPhones sold in the U.S. now have the option to use iPhone tethering as an additional feature of any new or existing data plan and requires contacting AT&T to select the preferred plan based on amount of use.
