How to Load a Log Onto a Pickup Truck
Sometimes life requires you to do difficult things all by yourself. One such task is lifting a big, heavy log into the back of a pickup truck. Typically an arduous job, it can be made easier with the right technique. Does this Spark an idea?

Back the truck up so that the end of the log faces the back of the truck.

Lift one end of the log and place it on the truck bed.

Attach the rope to the elevated end of log and the forward part of the truck bed. This will prevent the log from falling back or rolling off in the following step.

Lift the lower end while simultaneously sliding the log onto the truck bed.

Tips & Warnings
Half-inch rope works well for this task because it allows for easy tying and untying. It also provides excellent grip.
When working with heavy logs, double-check everything and have an escape route should it begin to fall.

what do you do if you have multiple logs? I've found a better technique is to lift the end furthest from the pickup or trailer bed into a verticle position then tip it so it falls into the trailer. Then it's just a matter of pushing/wiggling the log a couple feet or so to get it all the way in. Naturally as the load grows the more effort is required. I've used this method with dry lodgepole ranging from 4" to 20". Typically 20 to 25 logs makes a cord.
