How to Modify a Free Float Tube

The AR-15 is the civilian version of the venerable M16 service rifle.

Free float tubes are standard on most AR-15 type rifles. They allow increased accuracy and modularity. It is common to customize free float tubes. The most common form of customization is mounting Picatinny rails to allow for the attachment of multiple accessories.

Things You'll Need

• Table clamp

Instructions

1. Remove the free float tube from AR-15 by depressing the fore-end retention ring.

2. Wrap the float tube in a rubber mat.

3. Tighten the table clamp around the tube, taking care not to bend or scar it.

4. Perform your modifications.

Tips & Warnings

• Do not over-tighten the table clamp.
