Instructions

Start by preventing hair dye from getting on your skin. Use the petroleum jelly and coat the hairline across your forehead and down your temples, the tips of your ears and a little on the sides and back of your neck. This protects the dye from being absorbed into your skin and can be wiped off with a washcloth.

Remove any dye that drips onto an unprotected area of skin by immediately rinsing it off and then rubbing shampoo over the area. Rinse it off after a minute.

Buy a color-stain remover. Use this product only if the shampoo was unable to remove all the dye. Stores such as Sally's Beauty Supply sell color-stain removers meant for hair dressers to professionally remove hair dye from their clients' skin. They come in either a spray or cream. You can also put the product on a washcloth and apply it to the area you are treating.
