How to Set Up a Westell Router & a Remote Desktop
Your Westell router will give you a wireless signal that can be distributed throughout a location where for remote computers within range to access. You can also set up a remote desktop at a different location. Setting up your wireless Westell router and setting up the remote desktop are two different processes. The router setup should be established first, of course, as you need an Internet connection in order to access the signal that's connected to your computer.

Plug one end of the Ethernet cable that came with your Westell router into the Ethernet port "Internet," and plug the other end into the back of your DSL or cable modem labeled "Internet."

Plug another Ethernet cable from the back of your computer's available Ethernet port and the other cable into the back of your Westell router's available Ethernet port (LAN).

Plug both the DSL or cable modem, along with the Westell router, into your wall outlet. Ensure the phone wire is connected from the back of your modem into your nearest wall jack if you use the DSL modem. Or ensure the cable is connected from the back of the cable modem to your cable outlet.

From your host computer, navigate to "Start" and then right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties." Navigate to the "Remote tab" and click "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer."

Click "Select remote users" and then select "Add." Type in the name of each user account that will access the computer and click "OK." Click "OK" again to close the box.

Open your Internet browser from your remote computer and type in your IP address. Your Internet service provider issued this address to you. Install any remote desktop ActiveX controls if prompted. Click "connect," and you'll be given the option to fill in the server field.

Enter the user name and password that you use to log into Windows and click "OK." You created a user name and password when you created a new user account from the host computer.
