How to Disconnect a Base Chakra
Chakras or energy centers in the body correspond to particular nerve centers. The base chakra is located on the base of the spine, and is the foundation of the whole system. The root chakra is concerned with survival needs, such as food, shelter and safety. The base chakra is associated with the adrenal glands and the "fight-or-flight" response, as well as sexual energy. The root chakra is the foundation of the chakra system, as it is the most primal survival energy, according to Dr. Laura Davies, author of "The 7 Healing Chakras."

Depression could be a symptom of an imbalance in the chakra system. Check for symptoms of "pent-up energy and agitation," a sign of a blockage in the base chakra, according to Davies. Other symptoms include lower back pain, depression and an inability to concentrate or feeling "spacey," according to CaliforniaPsychics.

Walking barefoot in the sand is a way to soothe away stress. Use a "gradual relaxation" meditation to move stagnate energy out of your body. Stand with both feet flat on the floor and imagine "forcing the blocked energy in the base chakra to go through your feet into the earth" where it can be absorbed, Davies.

The base chakra is associated with stress and the adrenal glands. Use movement or moderate exercise to clear blockages, especially in the base chakra, as it is the base of all the other chakras. For some people a brisk walk might be enough to get their blood pumping. For others, a more focused form of exercise, such as kundalini yoga, can assist in the clearing. Kundalini yoga is based in the root chakra. The DVD "Kundalini Yoga to Detox and Destress" by Maya Fiennes explains the dynamic process of kundalini yoga to tone and detoxify the adrenal glands, as well as the other ways in which kundalini yoga is useful in relieving stress, energy blockages and detoxifying the kidneys. Fiennes is a registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance, a national yoga education organization in the United States.

Tips & Warnings
Some form of movement or exercise is essential for moving stagnate root chakra energy, but don't over-exercise to the point of exhaustion. Fiennes DVD is educational, but it may be too rigorous for beginners, so go at your own pace.
Pregnant and menstruating women should not do certain kundalini exercises, Fiennes says. One of these includes breathing techniques like the "breath of fire," which consists of very quick, short, sharp inhales and exhales.
Always seek the advice of a professional doctor before beginning any exercise program.
